Confession Kids at the Roadhouse

If you’ve been searching for your new favorite band, look no further than Confession Kids. This Gainesville-based folk punk group are powerhouse musicians who know how to put on a show. I saw them this Friday at the Roadhouse and had an absolute blast.

Jamming out with friends is even better when you know that the band is enjoying themselves as well. After the show I talked with Alex Roberts, Confession Kids’s bassist and one of the coolest people in the Gainesville scene. After working door at the Roadhouse for quite a while, he finally had a chance to play the venue. “This was a little bit of a personal dream come true, getting to play here,” he said. “I can’t lucid dream, but it’s very much something like that.”

This love for the Roadhouse has been echoed by many people in the community, and it is clear why. The DIY venue reflects so much of what makes the local music scene great: coming together with likeminded individuals to support bands that are not only making amazing music, but are also amazing people. And Confession Kids are definitely some of those cool people—on the topic of joining the band, Alex told me, “We have so many people that show up consistently to most if not all of our sets…it’s afforded me lots of friends and other opportunities. I really don’t know how else to phrase it besides that this has been one of the maybe top three greatest things that’s ever happened to me. Not just being in this community, but very specifically this band. This is maybe only my fourth or fifth show with them…and it feels like ever since this happened it’s been happening at a more and more rapid pace, but instead of speeding toward entropy, we’re speeding toward a really good time.”

((You can follow Confession Kids on Instagram @confessionkids and find them on Spotify. They have a show coming up in Orlando this Saturday! Also, please consider checking out Alex’s GoFundMe—the SSA has wrongfully stopped paying his disability and he’s in the process of appealing their decision. He and his partner need some support from the community, so please help out the homies if you can! https://gofund.me/29bbc4f8))
